Nursery Before & After

In August of 2017, we moved out of our small 1 bedroom condo and into a much more spacious 2 bed 2 bath apartment in preparation for the coming baby. The second bedroom was arranged to house my in-laws, who would stay over to be of great help with the newborn.

One year later with Leon in daycare and the in-laws having since returned to their normal lives, the spare room was free to turn into the nursery I always wanted! But while it remained vacant it had slowly evolved into a glorified storage closet where I stuck our oversized baby gear and random clutter. Added to that was the giant guest bed in the middle that we didn't have anywhere else to put. Before any nursery was going to happen, I had to figure out how to clear the room 😫

Hoo-boy.

Hoo-boy.

Luckily I had a lot of time off over the holidays. It was certainly a gradual process, but after a Goodwill drop off, a sprained upper back (lol) and some serious closet Tetris, I managed to declutter and get it done!

TA-DA! IS NURSERY!

The theme I was trying to go for was stars and clouds, and rabbits of course! Target’s Cloud Island line of baby products made this very easy to accomplish. I absolutely love their soft designs, adorable AND affordable!

I’m a fan of light colored wood furniture because it makes a room look bright. Ikea’s Sniglar crib is one of the most recommended and least expensive cribs available, being so popular it was even out of stock in our area for several months. It’s also made of untreated beech so when kids inevitably chew on it there’s no worry of ingesting toxic substances. I also happened to already have a light colored shelf from Ikea which was previously used to stash my art supplies, but I repurposed it to hold Leon’s toys and clothes.

Many of the plushies shown are UFO prizes we won from Japan over the years. There’s Mister Donut’s mascot Pon de Lion, Doraemon, and Shinzi Katoh’s Mon Peluche rabbits among others.

Full disclosure, I'm only showing one side of the room because the guest mattress is securely propped against the other wall ;) We decided to hold onto it!

We won’t be here forever since we’re looking for a house soon, so I held back on painting and wall hangings. Even if it’s just temporary, compared to the state it was in before, it’s now a bright and relaxing room that Leon loves roaming around and exploring. Maybe by the time we're done moving again, he will already want to graduate from the nursery to a boy's room. I’ll just have to enjoy this now while I can.
